About
Builder of AI tools · Father of two · United Kingdom
I build AI tools and AI-powered businesses. I am the founder of ShowUp Labs, an AI search visibility product that measures whether AI assistants recommend a business, and of AutoCoreAgent, an AI automation product. I write about how AI systems decide what to show people.
I work on my own products rather than client work. ShowUp Labs scores how often AI assistants recommend a business, shows which competitors they name instead, and says what to change. AutoCoreAgent handles the operational side of the same problem by automating the repetitive work that eats a small team's week.
Why this work
Something has shifted that most businesses have not noticed yet. For twenty years, being findable meant ranking on a page of links. A growing number of people no longer do that. They ask an assistant a question and act on whatever answer comes back.
That answer is assembled from whatever sources the model has decided to trust. When those sources are wrong or old or simply missing, the answer is wrong, and the business on the receiving end usually has no idea it is happening. I find that interesting as an engineering problem. I find it more interesting because of what it means for anyone trying to be accurately represented online. The difference between a system that tells the truth about you and one that repeats the first thing it found is entirely down to what is out there to be found.
What I care about
I want to be the best version of myself, and I do not think that means much unless it gets spent on something. I have two daughters. Most of what I do gets measured against them in some way, whether the work is honest, whether it is any use, and whether the person doing it is somebody worth looking up to. That is a harder standard than any client or metric, and I would rather hold myself to it.
I also think giving should be a decision rather than a mood. I put that into practice in 2021 when I gave $8,000 to a stranger's mission trip, and I have written about why I did that and what I think giving is for. The reasoning matters more to me than the amount did.
Anyone can feel generous for an afternoon. Meeting a standard you set in advance, on a day when it is inconvenient and nobody is watching, is the only version of it that costs you anything.
